Omoplata from Open Guard → Omoplata from Omoplata
3 Part Lesson — Marcelo expounds on the importance of finishing an Omoplata: [I] Several key details are oftentimes ignored in pursuit of this shoulder-lock; (a) keep your opponent's posture broken as you sit up by chopping both of your legs downward heavily, (b) pinch your knees tightly together to avoid letting the elbow slip out and (c), dominating the far shoulder as soon as possible. [II] If your opponent happens to roll out, dedicate both hands to keeping the elbow held inside the Omoplata as you rise up using your free foot to somersault. Race forward and catch your opponent's far shoulder before they have a chance to roll again. [III] If you realize you cannot beat the opponent's timing on the roll to finish on top, opt to finish from the bottom position by catching the far hip when they are still sitting on the mat. Apply the finishing pressure by scooting your hips away and pulling the opponent's shoulders down toward the mat.
