Countering Sumi-Gaeshi
3 Part Lesson -- Marcelo re-counters a common counter to the Single Leg on the feet: If you are standing up with your opponent's leg in hand, be prepared to transition against the threat of Sumi-Gaeshi or the "Corner-Reversal" (Hook Sweep w/ Belt Control) from classical judo. Sprawl against your opponent from lifting you overhead by dropping your hips low and tackling the hips. [06:55] If your opponent does fling you over top, utilize a bridge to catch yourself from bouncing your back on the mat. Run and turn back over to your knees to finish in Side Control. [10:45] Try your best to land on the same side as the hook that elevates you up and over; keep tight against the hips to avoid slipping away toward the opponent's chest or possibly the mat.
