2 Part Lesson -- Marcelo offers solutions for standing up to break your opponent's Closed Guard: If your opponent avoids hand-fighting while holding you inside the Closed Guard, grab both lapels and yank the opponent off the mat as you plant your feet to stand up. Don't let the opponent cling too close, and work to make a grip on the inside of the pants to put pressure against the ankles. When the guard breaks, immediately jump into your preferred method of Open Guard passing. [04:41] You can also hold up your opponent with an Underhook. However, don't allow your opponent to apply a strong Whizzer/Overhook against your arm. Grab the collar from behind and keep your elbow tight to avoid danger while you work against the legs.
