Paul Schreiner annotates over a sequence where Marcelo reverses his sparring partner and secures top position with a sweep. The Short-Hook-Sweep from Butterfly Guard, also known as Katageri-Mekuri (one-side push-kick sweep) from Judo's Newaza (more specifically, the Seitai-Shita position), is one of Marcelo's most reliable techniques against a kneeling opponent. Kicking out the opponent's base and seizing tightly with an Overhook forces the opponent's body to elongate in the same line as the axis of rotation, thereby reducing the moment of inertia and increasing the effect of the applied torque.
