Back Control Recovery
2 Part Lesson -- Marcelo maintains control over the back: Starting with Seatbelt Control against the Turtle Position, your opponent rolls away to escape; try to land on the opposite side underneath your opponent's hips before they touch the mat. Sometimes, you can expose the opponent over onto your Strong-Side Hook after the roll if you can take advantage of the momentum. If you can't get under the hips, start forcing back from where the roll started; throw in at topside hook and use your other leg to push off the mat, forcing the opponent to turn away and raise the hips. When he or she resists, cut back underneath the hips and roll to your Strong-Side (choking arm is a "Pillow" for the opponent's head). If your opponent tries to continue rolling past the Strong-Side back to Turtle, rock your free leg to help bring yourself back up on top and square up with the Seatbelt. [05:56] Your opponent may try to throw you over the near-side shoulder when he or she rolls through to return to Turtle. Keep your Seatbelt tight and prop yourself up in base with your Back-Hook by coming up onto your knee while leaving the foot in between the thighs.
