Triangle Escape
2 Part Lesson -- Marcelo evades submission from a Triangle and immediately replies back with an attack: If your opponent fires up a triangle and it's locked tightly around the top of your head, posturing up as an answer will be too difficult; instead, use your free hand to push yourself out backwards, extracting your head and arm. Be careful about avoiding a potential armlock as your arm slips out; keep a slight bend in your arm as you pull to avoid letting your opponent take your forearm and hyperextend your elbow. You may need to stand up and yank yourself free if you are caught tightly, particularly in gi. [05:50] Don't retreat from the position after you escape. Immediately work to pass your opponent, possibly taking advantage of tired legs. You can just throw the legs to one side and run chest to chest, or you can push one leg down and chase the opponent's head to close the distance.
