3 Part Lesson -- Paul takes a deep dive into the Góes Guard & Tripod Sweep: Technically speaking, the Goes Guard consists of two specific limb configurations; namely, same-side/opposite contact with your foot to the opponent's leading hip, and an ipsilateral grip made with your arm behind the lead ankle. When you use your free hand to make a grip on the opponent's cross-side sleeve, you will have entered a "Cross Guard." When fighting in the gi, seize your opponent's sleeve, strip away his or her collar grip and pass the hand under your wrist; this will ensure that your opponent cannot anchor his/her weight against your Tripod Sweep. [05:35] If encounter difficulty tipping your opponent backwards, try sliding your Butterfly Hook from the inside of the knee down towards the ankle. [07:23] If your opponent accommodates his or her base while you are working for the sweep, use your foot-on-the-hip to elevate the lead leg and prop it up with your knee (aka 70/30-Guard).
