Foot Pummel vs 50/50 Guard
2 Part Lesson -- Marcelo escapes and passes the 50/50 leg entanglement: When your opponent uncrosses his or her figure-four hold around your leg, take your free leg and pin the opponent's outside leg down onto the mat with your shin. Don't let this leg escape out from underneath otherwise you can get stuck in a Reverse Closed Guard. Spin around towards the opposite side to establish some form of Side Control. [02:26] Oftentimes your opponent will open up a Closed 50/50 Guard to either swing his her leg like a pendulum to generate momentum for a sweep, or to act as if they don't want to stall in the position. Strike at the opportunity the moment your opponent opens the outside leg of the 50/50; use your hand to help grab the pants and pin down the opponent's leg once you remove your shin and look to pass.
