Marcelo stresses the importance of being mindful about the concept of back-exposure: Contextually, back-exposure in the grappling world oftentimes refers to any position where your back faces the mat; wherein wrestling this would result in points or pinfall. However, in terms of jiu-jitsu, back-exposure tends to refer to anytime your backside is vulnerable to your opponent's control; whether you are capable of being held with their arms (Harness, Seatbelt, et al.) or with their legs (Hooks, Body-Triangle, et cetera). If you're on top and your opponent turns over exposing their back, find a control and avoid a Single or Double Leg Reversal. If you're on bottom, spin either way to avoid letting your opponent fasten the Seatbelt and keep control over your back.
