1 Part Lesson -- Marcelo uses weight and angle to pin his opponent and open up attacks: Rely on weight, alignment, and connection rather than insisting on the use of strength and grips to hold down your opponnent in Side Control (Side-Mount, Cross-Sides, Cross-Mount, Cem-Kilos, Yoko-shiho-gatame, et al). If your opponent tries to turn onto his or her side towards you, help pull them and block their arm from reaching around for an Underhook. Guide them while trapping their triceps with your chest and make them face down for Seatbelt Control and a Back-Take. If instead, your opponent tries to face away from you, use your chest to help push them onto their far-side, rolling until you can connect your hands around for the Back.
