2 Part Technique - Press the opponent to the mat and initiate a guard pass using Collar and Elbow Control. You may not be able to Standing Step Pass or Knee Slide if the opponent locks a strong Half Guard. The opponent's next reaction will generally be to scoot under for an offensive Half Guard. The easiest solution would be to sprawl your leg away with an Under Hook and Head Control to counter his reach, but Leg Over vs Half Guard is the second best option. If he could not secure a proper control to threaten you with Deep Half Guard, because your leg was too far away, use a variation of the Under Hook and Head Control to take advantage of the situation. Sprawl your leg away with the control and pass using a Knee Cross.
