Lesson Part 2 of 2 -- Marcelo works his way onto a Single from the feet: Sometimes your opponent will respond defensively if they are lured into a pulling set-up from standing; this is oftentimes the case when you try to control your opponent with Double Wrist Control or a 2-On-1 (Russian-Tie, Baseball-Bat Grip, et al.) You will tend to find more success moving your opponent where you want to with Collar & Elbow Control or even Over/Under Control (aka; 50/50 Clinch). If your opponent won't step toward you with the leg that sets up your particular shot, try circling your opponent into stepping close. Circle away from the leg that you want to attack. However, don't circle in a direct in which you cannot readily act on the opportunity; if your arm is controlled or gets stuck above your opponent, you won't be able to capitalize on the timing. Double Elbow Control with your hands locked on the biceps for Inside-Ties, or even grips along the triceps or elbows can easily be adjusted into a shot.
