Advanced Lesson Part 3 of 5 -- Marcelo devises drill-able scenario to let his students experience the frustration and pressure that comes from an all-too-frequent competitive plan, when your opponent is up on points with little time remaining in the bout; namely, the anticlimactic yet permissible strategy known colloquially as stalling: The partner stalling on the feet must try and ride the line between legal evasive maneuvers and penalizable inactivity. The partner whose role is to chase down and score, making up or superseding the point deficit, must learn how to deal with the emotion that comes from trailing against an opponent who is comfortable gaming the rules of fair-play in order to secure a victory. Don't let yourself lose sight of the fact that their is still time remaining to act and possibly reverse the outcome of the match. It is best to start a match aggressively, as in the case of shooting for a low-risk, Swing-Single right at the onset. Always try to put the pressure to act onto your opponent first, so that you can take advantage of their openings and vulnerabilities during mid-transition, thus gaining the initiative and winning the luxury of advantageous tempo.
