Diversifying Your Techniques
Marcelo advocates for Pareto Efficiency or the 80/20 Principle when it comes to honing one's skills: Optimize your training time by branching out to new alternatives once you've gained proficiency with a certain specific skill. There will be a point of diminishing return if you continue to spend your efforts on improving for just a slight percentage increase at a move you've already successfully integrated into your repertoire. You may encounter an opponent or body-type who can effortlessly shut down your A-game; keep other options at the ready to switch up your attack and test their defenses with a different arsenal of techniques. It is quite difficult and very unlikely for an individual opponent to successfully cover the innumerable combinations you could present them with adequately enough to stop you from making progress.
