Hand Fighting vs Butterfly, Back Step Pass, Double Under Control vs Butterfly
Marcelo talks about the idea of hand-fighting against the Seated Butterfly-Guard from the standing position: If you are not ready to pass your opponent with a technique, don't let them just hug your lead leg. Keep yourself out of their control by staying busy with your hands and pummeling for inside position. If you anticipate that your opponent insists on grabbing your leg, you can launch yourself into a Back-Step and stay ahead in the exchange. Ideally, Marcelo looks for Double Under-Hooks against the Butterfly-Guard. However, if his opponent defends, he can always employ a different tactic and switch to the faster standing position. Hunt for the Knee-Slide Pass, Guillotine-Choke, Standing-Step Pass, Back-Step Pass, or grab their ankles and lift them flat onto their back.
