Straight Footlock vs Open Guard
Master Fabio Gurgel shows Paul a finishing variation for the Straight Ankle-Lock: When traditionally applying the Ankle-Lock (Botinha, Straight Foot-Lock, Achilles-Hold, Chave-de-Pé, et al.) the attack against the ankle joint if performed by connecting one's hands together with a variety of different gripping methods; e.g. with a Seat-Belt Grip or wrist-to-wrist with a Butterfly-Grip. However, one can maximize the pressure against the most sensitive parts of the joint by cinching up a Figure-4 style grip as demonstrated, much like throttling the neck with a Rear-Naked Choke. Movement is ultimately directed into the opponent's toes with the back of your shoulder, putting the foot in hyperextension.
