X Guard Entry from Single Leg Control
Marcelo helps Matty reconfigure his X-Guard from Shin-on-Shin: When setting your X-Hook (an Inverted Reverse Butterfly-Hook) for the X-Guard Position, make sure that your near-side hip is externally rotated so that your knee is placed behind your opponent's hips; failing to keep this leg in proper position will allow your opponent several ways to break free from your control and begin a counter-offensive, e.g. a Leg-Over Pass. Also keep your ankle in a strong dorsiflexion to act as a sticky hook against their far-leg. Stay tight around their near-leg with your shoulder and continue to improve your grips while constantly testing their balance and seeking a point of weakness in their base for an attack.
