Arm Trap from Back Control
Marcelo & Taimak assist Joel with understanding angles and tactics for trapping an arm from the Back: Give yourself room to maneuver your topside leg by adjusting your hips out to the side, but make sure to maintain a strong connection to your opponent's upper-body by keeping a tight Seat-Belt Control locked around their torso with your head tucked firmly underneath theirs (while laying on the weak-side, i.e. choking-arm on top). Slam your heel downward on top of your opponent's forearm to scrape their hands away from their neck while actively flexing your toes towards your knee. Oftentimes, your opponent can inadvertently assist you with the trapping transition by pulling strongly against your choking-arm; quickly release your grip and fling their arm closer to your foot by guiding it laterally as they try to pull your arm away from the danger of the choke. The more angles of attack you can volley at your opponent while on their back, the more likely you will succeed with getting under their chin for a strangle.
