Marcelo briefly walks through the finalizing steps of a rear strangle: Maintaining chest-to-back connection with your opponent is of vital importance when attempting to finish from the Back; while holding your opponent's hips with your Back-Hooks, squeeze your opponent close utilizing Seat-Belt Control (i.e. Over/Under with a Ball-n-Socket Grip). A fairly common mistake in this position is to clasp one's hands together such that their choking-arm's hand is directly exposed to a defensive counter-grip from your opponent. Successfully locking around your opponent's torso with Seat-Belt Control involves hiding your choking-hand as a closed fist underneath your underhooking arm's hand; covering it in this manner allows one to protect the option of making a transition towards the choking finish. If your opponent happens to pull away your underhook-hand, oftentimes you can freely make the jump with your hand onto their shoulder and shoot your forearm across their neck to begin threating your submission. Anchor your hand in place by digging your fingertips into their shoulder-blade as you collect 1-on-1 Wrist Control with your other hand. Use your control over your opponent's wrist to press their arm downward within reach of your Back-Hook on that same side; quickly release your Back-Hook and trap your opponent's arm underneath your leg as you reinsert the hook back into place. Your free hand can now help clean up your choking-arm's positioning against your opponent's throat and eventually settle down into a throttling configuration, e.g. palm-to-palm for a Short-Choke or as a Fig.-4 for the traditional Rear-Naked.
