Double Leg Takedown, Breaking the Closed Guard, Knee Inside Pass vs Closed Guard
Marcelo guides and demos for his students a helpful basic sequence: Oftentimes, after successfully initating and actualizing a Double-Leg Takedown, one finds themselves caught directly inside of their opponent's Closed-Guard. Before your opponent can muster up and execute an offensive plan, neutralize their arms by placing your hands as posts against both of their biceps. Next, move your feet into position to raise your hips up from the mat and prepare yourself for a staggered stance with strong base. Remove your hands from their biceps and place your hand (on the side of your lead-leg) onto your opponent's midsection, while placing your opposite hand (on the side of your trail-leg0 onto the inside of your opponent's knee. Press downward with the palm of your hand against their Closed-Guard and allow their leg to slide down the ramp of your thigh at a steep enough angle to mitigate resistance without comprosing your balance. Once their guard is open, drive and drop your trailing-leg's knee across your opponent's thigh; before crossing your foot over their leg, bring your opposite leg behind your pinning-knee and seek to pass with Under-Hook & Head-Control.
