Advanced Lesson -- Marcelo demonstrates three ways of gaining access to his opponent's back: If your opponent is playing an Open-Guard in a supine position and their feet are high, grab onto their ankles and force them into a backwards roll; when they arrive on their knees, quickly drop your chest against their upper-back and fasten the Seat-Belt. If you can grab onto your opponent's legs from Open-Guard and whip them out of your way towards a pass, be ready to take your opponent's back if they attempt to recover by rolling away. Lastly, if your opponent tries to turn towards you for a Single-Leg after you've passed their Open-Guard, quickly switch yourself over to the opposite side by back-stepping around their head through North/South to find your Seat-Belt Control. Once you've latched your arms around your opponent's torso with the Seat-Belt, maintain a strong connection with your chest against their back. Don't mistake Back-Hooks for control over your opponent's back-side, nor should you allow any space to grow between your head and their own while holding onto their back.
