3 Part Technique - Commonly, your opponent will attempt to control one of your arms while working his Closed Guard, but you can easily free from his overhook by sliding your backhand across his hip. While momentarily free to reposition your hands, place posts on either his chest or biceps so that you can pop up from kneeling and stand to break his guard. If you fall backward from a sweep, simply posture back up into his guard and try again. If you need more time to uncross his ankles from standing, step onto his bicep and gain extra time when he tries to free himself from underneath your foot. If you encounter trouble sliding out of his overhook, drive your shoulder high into his guard until you can make enough space for your hand to slip passed his hip.
