Master Fabio Gurgel opts to grab his opponent's lapel rather than their belt for an Over/Under Pass: Starting from inside control over your opponent's Open-Guard, if you cannot readily cross your leg over for a Knee-Slide Pass, you can choose to pummel your arm underneath of their leg as if going for a Single-Leg Stacking Pass. If you attach to your opponent by grabbing onto their belt, they may counter your passing attempt with a Burial maneuver (Modified Arm-Drag, et al.) by placing their foot on the floor and escaping their hips as they shuck your stacking arm downward to take your back. Prevent your opponent from having this option by grabbing onto their lapel instead and pulling yourself tightly against their stacked leg; keeping pressure behind their leg will stop them from easily reaching the mat to make the adjustment with their hips. After driving forward and hopping over their opposite leg, don't reach for their head just yet for Side-Control; clean up your pass by clearing their nearside hip and elbow before looking to shift towards their head for the pin. Stay off of your knees to maintain pressure and run your legs behind your opponent's knee to turn them onto their side before climbing up into their near-side armpit for head control.
