2 Part Technique - We don't play Spider Guard here, but we certainly respect it enough to understand how it works so we can get out of it. Ideally, our posture and hand placement should hide the hooks necessary for a Spider Guard player to sweep or attack. If you do find yourself caught inside, gain counter-grips for balance and unravel the hooks one at a time, starting with the easiest to access: if it's the lasso hook, grip on the outside and mount over his shin to break the hook. If it's the foot-on-the-bicep hook, nudge his foot off with your knee and cut inside on his thigh. Once one of the hooks is inactive, you can begin with the procedure for the Folding Pass.
