2 Part Technique - Marcelo's Over/Under Pass versus Half Guard consists of a few, important details; firstly, one must establish an underhook, gripping onto the gi, but distribute his shoulder-weight through the side of the overhook, also gripping the gi behind the triceps. If he were to pass without the gi, his head would lean over the shoulder closest to the underhook instead. Next, you must keep his hips off-center, never leaving your weight susceptible to a roll or reversal. This is oftentimes a battle, but fortunately it's one you will win because gravity is on your side and your opponent will eventually tirefrom lifting your legs. When the moment presents itself, step on top of his knee and climb your leg through his half into Side Control. If he is playing a Lockdown Half Guard, try to keep your foot elevated high above the mat, and if he captures it, kick it free.
