2 Part Technique — Marcelo demonstrates a simple way to disentangle your opponent's Spider Guard hooks with strong standing posture: First, look to prevent him from weaving his Lasso Hook even deeper by closing off the space for his foot to hook onto your back; n.b. while bent over above the Spider Guard, engage your abdominals to offset the strain induced in your lower back. Next, roll your wrists to fight with both hands inside between his knees as you erect yourself upright--back straight and base under hips. If he hangs onto your sleeves, crouch down inside his guard and make grips on either his pants and/or lapel(s) to avoid the Spider-Hooks. If he lets go to perform the Ankle Pull Sweep, simply anticipate the transition and kick one leg free to post behind yourself, thus countering the attempt.
