3 Part Lesson — Marcelo presents several different options for pulling guard from the hand and grip fight: [I] If your opponent makes a grip on your collar, break it off and turn it into a 2on1. If he grabs the side that doesn't correspond with your favored side, break the grip off and intercept his other arm when he tries to defend after the break. Finish by pulling him directly into an open guard sweep. [II] Use your elbow to block your opponent from making a second grip on your gi after he makes the initial collar grip. If he has control of the side that doesn't match your preferred 2on1, you can simply retreat and start again. [III] If your opponent makes a grip on your arm after you have seized the 2on1, disregard it and finish. But again, if on your weak side, switch off to the sleeve of his recent grip and break it off into the 2on1 for the Pull & Sweep.
