1Leg X Guard Entry vs Knee Slide Pass, Pumphandle Gi Grips from Butterfly, 1Leg X Guard Sweep from 1Leg X Guard
2 Part Lesson — Marcelo shares with his Advanced Class two forms of control for entering into 1Leg X-Guard when his opponent is attempting to pass with a Knee Slide: [I] If your opponent steps inside your Seated Butterfly Guard before you can react with distance, hug his lead leg in Single Leg Control and begin removing his skirt-tail from underneath his belt by pulling upward on his lapel with your free hand. Once untucked, feed the tail end of the lapel into the opposite hand for the Pumphandle Gi Grip, and then grab onto his pants to control his far knee. Use your lone Butterfly-Hook to kick him forward as you pull his shin into your armpit, allowing your to bite his hip in 1Leg X-Guard for the Sweep. [II] N.b., Master Fabio Gurgel insists on utilizing a Pistol Grip (Atari/Joystick) to hold the Pumphandle because it will be much harder for your opponent to break your grip by pulling his tail 'through' your hand, as opposed to 'out' of your hand. For a stronger version of the 1Leg X-Guard Entry, reach across the opponent's lead leg and switch the Pumphandle Grip to your opposite hand.
