2 Part Lesson — Marcelo explains 3 options for when his opponent's Spider Guard defies conventional grip-breaking methods and calls for an even stronger response: [I] The first and second option both involve committing your entire body weight into the break. Using your shin, scrape off the opponent's hand from your sleeve as you yank your arm away from the grip. This action may come from the outside or inside, depending on where the opponent chooses to hold your sleeve. If you cannot find his hand with your knee, quickly release your other hand's grip to grab onto his wrist to assist in stripping the sleeve grip. Once free, immediately react with any pass available, so as to transition out of the Spider Guard. [II] If you encounter difficulty even still, resort to the third option; release your counter-grip against his sleeve-grip and place your same-side foot directly on top of his biceps. Once set, engage the entire range of your legs and back to extend outward and rip free from his sleeve-grip. Again, without hesitation, take advantage of your freedom and move to a less troublesome or advantageous position.
