2 Part Lesson — Marcelo instructs his class on two methods of passing over the top of the opponent's Butterfly Guard: [I] Pick up both of the opponent's ankles to place him flat on his back, and then stuff his feet between your legs as you kneel back down to the mat in Double Under Control. Choose a side and pin the opponent's knee to the mat, sprawling heavily over his leg and circling around his Butterfly hooks. If the opponent begins hooking your leg in a Half Guard, quickly clean off his hook with your foot as you continue to circle around for the pass. [II] If the opponent frames and keeps you away from Double Under Control, squish his heels close to his butt and rise up onto your toes. Again, choose a side and swing your leg over both of the opponent's legs, landing your hip onto his side in Side Control. Look to establish the pass with Underhook and Head Control immediately after swinging the leg and landing on his side.
