Marcelo avoids a fast pass with timing, a Single, and Guard Recovery: [I] If your opponent lifts your ankles up and knocks you flat to pass your Butterfly Guard, quickly brace against his shoulders to prevent him from closing the distance too fast. Before your frames collapse, turn onto your side and use the point of your shoulder to bear the opponent's weight as you latch low onto a Single Leg. You can pull his leg into your Half Guard for Deep Half, et al, or you can pick his knee up and drive him down flat with the Single. [II] If your opponent tries to counter your Single Leg attempt by running around to your Back, don't turn on your knees and stay on your side for the Hip Roll Guard Recovery. Gain control over his wrist or sleeve before he can find his Rear Underhook and push his arm out of the way of your legs as they swing back around to face the opponent.
