2 Part Lesson — Marcelo talks on the unavoidable risk involved in advancing your position toward the finish. [I] Particularly in nogi, where your opponent can take advantage of the "slip" factor, you need to make your movements sharp and quick in order to avoid the possibility of losing control. When you place all of your weight through your shin to pry out of the Half Guard to Mount, you are vulnerable to the sweep. That is why it is imperative that you concentrate on your technique the most during this point of the movement. Similarly, when approaching the Triangle from Mount, you cannot give your opponent the time he needs to respond back with an escape; skip through the hot bed of coals that is the weak points of your attack to finish your opponent. [II] If your opponent reverse your position from top to bottom, lock on the the triangle and try to finish. If you cannot adjust the lock to squeeze for the tap, find his arm and try to hyperextend his elbow. If you don't have the length to finish the armbar, take his wrist laterally out and put the presssure on his shoulder.
