3 Part Lesson — Marcelo has follow-ups for a hardy opponent: [I] Since Nogi can be slippery, prepare yourself by having another technique at the ready once the first attempt fails. If your opponent slips out of your Collar & Elbow Control for the Hook Sweep from Butterfly Guard, quickly sit up and reapply the same technique to the opposite side. [II] If your opponent postures out of your first two Hook Sweep attempts with the Collar & Elbow Tie, capture Double Overhook Control when he tries to drive you flat. Use the Overhooks to Sweep from side to side; if he posts his hand to prevent the sweep, switch for an Underhook and hit the Hook Sweep for a fifth time using the Over/Under Control. [III] If you gain tight Double Overhooks and your opponent postures up, try kicking out his base and sweeping him off to the side. If you gain the Underhook but then lose the Overhook as you sweep, immediately switch to a deeper guard, e.g. the X-Guard.
