3 Part Lesson — Marcelo wants his students to find the line between Safety & Danger: [I] Never let your feet get ahead of your hands. If you plant your base too closely to your opponent, he may find a hook or grip that will lead to your submission. Keep your hands on the opponent at a distance that allows you to close quickly and pass but also gives you an escape route out if things don't go your way. [II] If your opponent inverts to throw his legs up and attack your base, raise your feet away from the ground vertically. Back out until you are safe from any connecting attacks and try to find a gap in his composure that will allow you to attack. [III] Learn how to stay safe and attack from your knees. Learning how to switch between standing and kneeling will give you an edge and make it harder for your opponent to keep up with his tactics and find an appropriate response.
