3 Part Lesson — Marcelo finds and loses the back: [I] Don't allow your opponent to escape from the Front Headlock Position after you've sprawled onto his shot. This may even require you to actively yank him down to the mat if he begins building up in a Quad Pod Position. Break him from All-Fours by pulling him down and look to circle behind his triceps with your knee to latch on with Seatbelt Control. [II] If your opponent tries to recover his guard after you take his back, thrust your knee out of his reach by sliding into a Modified Scarf Hold Position. Either look to pummel an Underhook for Side Control or turn all the way to North/South if you are too high up away from his hips. [III] Don't turn into the opponent too early when looking to secure the top position with an Underhook or North/South Position. Keep distance between yourself and the opponent by circling away from his legs in the Modified Scarf Hold until you find an opportunity to secure the top position.
