2 Part Lesson — Marcelo defends an Arm-In Guillotine from Half Guard: [I] Tripod up and grab your opponent's legs to help free your knee and foot from inside the half; you may be able to slip free with a strong push or have to cut your knee toward the outside with a slide. Quickly, avoid letting your opponent keep your head down on its Strong-Side by jumping or cartwheeling across the body and landing in with a Topside (Weak-Side for Opponent) Double Leg Impact Control Position. Generally, you are safe from tapping out to the choke and can then work yourself free to Side Control or possibly North/South. Don't let your opponent shrimp away and return to the top for a reset; keep ahold of the pants/legs until you secure the threat. [II] If you cannot free your leg from the Half Guard, back-step around to the Reverse Half Position and kick free with the Back Step Pass after you secure the top position and stop the crank/choke. Don't use this option first when caught in the Half Guard Arm-In Guillotine off of a Double Leg Takedown; the back-step has the tendency to help pull the opponent up on top if you're not careful as you swing over to the opposite/far-side.
