2 Part Lesson -- Marcelo recovers from a front hold down: If your opponent tries to pin you down with Double Underhooks to secure a takedown, you still have time to escape before full points are scored. Pump your legs against your opponent's hips to create enough space for a frame and/or knee shield. Use these to keep your space and recover back to your feet to avoid the takedown's effect. [02:32] If you are held down strongly, it is better to recover and reverse with a sweep than to escape; sweeping your opponent will nullify the points lead your opponent secured by holding you down after the fall. If your opponent is crawling forward to chase your hips when you pedal and make space, apply the Lebell/TK Guard to recover Full Butterfly; set grapevining hooks from the outside against your opponent's shins to open up enough space to pummel your feet back inside. Depending on which way your opponent resists will dictate which side to sweep him or her; Marcelo prefers to (Long) Hook Sweep to his right opposite the side of his head, or implement a stomp for a Short Hook Sweep on the left-side. Either way, secure the upper body with Double Overhooks held together with a Seatbelt-Grip.
