Omoplata from Half Guard > Triangle from Half Guard > Elbow Control Armbar from Triangle
3 Part Lesson -- Marcelo shows 3 submission options framing his opponent away from bottom Half-Guard: Marcelo demonstrates his unique entry into Omoplata; most practitioners maneuver into the Omoplata (Sankakugarami, Coil-Lock, et al.) by manipulating their foot over the opponent's shoulder requiring a fair amount of flexibility. However, Marcelo finds that he has an increase in finish rate by chopping down against the arm with a straight, heavy leg rather than bending it at the knee joint. Doing so gives you a slight head-start in the race toward the far shoulder to finish the lock. Relying on flexibility in this position may seem convenient for those with the necessary attributes, but the forceful break in posture accompanied from the downward swing of your leg helps you climb up the back for top control. [03:41] If your opponent continues to drive forward making it hard for you to find the room to swing into the Omoplata, place your foot on their hip and push it to extract your bottom leg out for the Triangle. Control the far arm to clear enough space for your foot to pass through to the opponent's shoulder. [06:21] If your opponent tries to yank their arm out from the Triangle before you can cross it to the opposite side for the choke, sandwich your legs around the shoulder while cupping behind the elbow. Pinch your knees together in a scissors-like fashion to hyperextend the are; n.b. practice this carefully when training but don't hold as much back against bigger opponents.
