3 Part Lesson -- Marcelo demonstrates how to properly grip-fight from Seated Guard: Don't let your opponent make a grip on your collar(s) or your pant(s); slide your foot at the slightest notice of when your opponent tries to control your leg. Undercut your opponent's grip on your pant-leg with your forearm as you kick your leg out to break the control. Once you clear your opponent's arm, turn it into a favorable grip for your game. [05:29] If your opponent manages to simultaneously seize your collar and pant-leg, deal with the collar grip first; use two hands to strip away the control as you fall towards your free-side. Place your free foot on the opponent's hip and raise your caught leg up into the air where you can search for a stirrup (foot-on-biceps, spider-hook). [08:49] If your opponent tries to cut/split your guard with their lead leg, push off of the knee and retreat back. If they pick up both of your feet, lift your hips to make your legs heavy and circle your ankles out of the grips.
