Guard Pull from Standing
3 Part Lesson -- Marcelo demonstrates how to legally pull and attack: Engage your opponent on the feet using Kumite-Arasoi (Grip/Hand-Fighting) for the intention of Hikikomi (Guard-Pulling) with Kumigata (Forms of Grip; e.g. Ryotedori (Double Wrist Control), Morotedori (2-on-1 Control, Baseball Bat Control, et al.)). When pulling guard, focus more on sitting down rather than lying backwards. [03:27] Avoid interlacing your fingers with your opponent on the chance that they might try to manipulate your fingers. If your opponent yanks back their arm(s) to escape your control, immediately work onto a leg for a Single, Double, or Ankle Pick. [08:20] Remember to scoot forward as you reach for your opponent's legs when they try to free themselves from your control after the pull. You can also use your Butterfly-Hooks behind the opponent's legs to help pull them into your attack.
