Seat-Belt Grip vs Gable Grip from Front Head-Lock
Marcelo explains which kind of grips he selects and also why he uses them when holding a Front Head-Lock Position. When holding your opponent's head and arm from above, sprawl your legs back so that your knees do not touch the mat; this will ensure that your opponent must carry your body-weight and therefore slow their response. If conditions are slippery, opt for the Seat-Belt (or Ball-n-Socket, Reverse Cup-n-Saucer, et al.) Grip so that you can better follow your opponent's movements and make slight adjustments to secure your opponent into the position. If you need more power and wish to take away space, choose the Gable (Palm-to-Palm w/o thumbs, et al.) Grip. However, if interbody friction is decreased, you may have a harder time following your opponent's movements while holding the Front Head-Lock this way.
