Marcelo & John help Orlando solve a problem with his Guillotine attempt from Half-Guard (top): Take advantage of the dilemma facing your opponent when you snatch up their neck while they are still holding your leg inside half-guard; work on freeing your whole leg, or at the very least your knee, as you simultaneously place pressure with the choke. Oftentimes, you can divert your opponent's attention and resources away from these problems long enough to take advantage of one or possibly both. This happens to be the case much more when fighting nogi, as you can take advantage of the reduced friction from smoother uniforms and slippery perspiration. If you wind up in Mount or 3/4-Mount (which is sometimes better option for the finish as your opponent remains focused on keeping your foot rather than protecting their neck), balance your weight using your forehead on the mat and allocate your resting weight directly onto your grip around their neck. If you wind up on bottom, it is all the more important that you were able to free up your hips somewhat so that you can play an effective guard for finding the finish.
