Single-Leg & Far Ankle-Pick from Open-Guard
Marcelo helps Spencer with a connectivity issue: Mitigate the amount of time your opponent has to assess which measures they should take to bypass your defenses; the longer you wait for the next move happen, the more danger you pose for yourself. If your opponent breaks your grips, postures up and away from you guard, and leaves their lead leg inside while you are lying on your back, immediately look to sit up quickly and attack. If their trailing-leg is far away, you can oftentimes easily stand up with their leading-leg with a Single; however, if their trailing-leg is close, you are better off switching for a Double/Ankle-Pick against it. Taking advantage and seizing the correct initiative for these interstitial moments between critical points of passing or sweeping are crucial for finding success against high-level opponents who are ready to return back the same in kind.
