Taking Your Opponent's Breath Away
Marcelo & Josh discuss the subtleties behind suffocating pressure from the Mount-Position: Increasing your effectiveness from the mount isn't so much a matter of consciously activating oneself to occupy given-up space inasmuch as it is constant and consistent pressure that automatically fills any voids when presented. If your opponent requires room to properly achieve a full breath, don't release your pressure off of them until you've taken advantage of their weakness by securing and isolating a submission from above during their state of duress. It is a mistake to let go of the connection between your weight directed through your hips and your opponent's expanding diaphragm; if you feel their stomach retract, passively allow yourself to sink deeper into the position and encroach the volume of space they've yielded to you.
