3-Part Advanced Lesson -- Special guest instructor, Braulio Estima, teaches his infamous namesake foot-lock: Understanding the submission is a matter of isolating your opponent's ankle with your stomach, turning away to prevent inversion, raising their heel upward, and dropping downward onto their toes with a figure-four grip. [4:41] Timing is everything; the move is best caught when your opponent's foot is pummeling inside from a Z-Guard or lassoing around from the Knee-Shield position. You can proactively catch the lock by starting with an arm-weave against their shin, then sliding your arm down to their heel as you remove your hip out of the way. You can step up with your other leg to their same-side hip for a tap, or you can whip your leg over to their far-side hip and sit down for a devastating break. You may also step across and stand up over them as long you place weight down onto their hips to prevent them from rotating out of the hold. [11:30] You can initiate the Estima-Lock by starting with a Standing Pass and catching your opponent's foot when they wipe with their foot inside to recover back their guard. You don't necessarily need to finish the lock by advancing forward; you may also drop back and sit down to the side as long as your outside heel can catch their far-hip and block them from elevating.
