3-Part Advanced Lesson -- Bernardo transmutes Side-Control (bottom) into a favorable set of Half-Guard sweeps: Frame against your opponent's upper-body and escape your hips to make room for an Under-Hook; quickly snag your opponent's near-side leg into your Half-Guard (Coyote-Guard, et al.) to prevent them from stepping across into Full-Mount. Feed their lapel in between their legs and into your hand to secure a tight Single-Leg capture as you turn-over onto your knee. Pick and tap their far-knee in base for a transition into a Double-Leg finish as you drive forward for the sweep. [2:32] If your opponent steps their far-leg up and away from your control for the initial sweep, grab onto the inside of their pants by their inner thigh and roll onto your back in the opposite direction as before. Stay tight with your opponent as you rise up on top so that you can readily attack an Over/Under-Pass (a la Faria) and connect your movements. [4:31] If your opponent uses their hands to base out against your secondary sweep, simply go back to the first sweeping direction and oscillate between these options until your opponent cannot keep up with their defensive measures.
