Marcelo describes to Rush certain elements of isolating an arm from the Full-Mount Position: Oftentimes, if an opponent is stuck underneath of your Mount, particularly in the case of mixed martial arts, they will elect to reach around your back and connect their hands together to inhibit your movement while also protecting their head from harder blows. Albeit a quick and temporary solution to their predicament, doing such amounts to making a big mistake in terms of submission risk; the opponent leaves their elbows open and exposed from hugging at your torso, thus allowing an opportunity to attack. Step one of your legs up high and post your foot on the mat above your opponent's head to capture their elbow in your lap; hug your arm around your knee to help encircle their trapped elbow and maintain control as you work to break their grip. Press on their shoulder and/or forehead conservatively, i.e. stablely without much energy expenditure, until they can no longer hold onto their own hands and the grip pops open. Once your opponent's hands are unclasped, swing your foot across their face and work yourself around their shoulder to sit down with the Monoplata shoulder-lock.
