3 Part Lesson — Marcelo incorporates the "Navy Ride" (or Koshigatame) from folk-style wrestling to keep his opponent down in Side Control: [I] Transition to Knee-On-Belly if your opponent blocks your hip with his nearside arm and prevents you from making the Transition to North/South. Know to go N/S from Side Control when your opponent bumps and/or pummels his farside arm into an Underhook. While holding the Knee-On-Belly Position, stuff his shoulder and keep his back flat on the mat. Look to secure the Farside Underhook as you counter his Hip Escape and drop back down into the Side-Mount. [II] If your opponent turns up onto his side before you can place your shin across his stomach for Knee Mount, opt to catch his farside leg with an Underhook and clasp your hands together to hold him down off of his Single Leg attempt. Switch back to North/South or pummel for a Reverse Underhook to re-establish control. [III] If your opponent is insistent on turning up onto his side despite your holding of his leg with the Navy-Ride, release his knee and immediately step over into Mount for the Spiral Armbar.
