Marcelo guides Rush through a seemingly tricky transition: One doesn't necessarily have to develop a completely symmetric set of transitions for their game in terms of right and left sides, just as long as you have a coherent connection between your positions. Such is oftentimes the case with the Deep Half-Guard; it is quite rare to find proponents who are equally adept chirally. If it isn't a matter of a particular predilection for one side or the other, sometimes it comes down to how your opponent chooses to distribute their base. Using both hands, you can push your opponent's hips away to change their weight from one leg to the opposite one, and adjust yourself into either X-Guard or Single-Leg X. However, if you find it difficult to make this transition, you can opt to pummel your feet underneath their leg from the Deep-Half, and swap out your knees while holding onto their ankle. Pull their foot into your armpit and spin yourself around into the 1Leg-X of your preferred side.
