2 Part Technique - Arguably, the most dominant position in all of jiu-jitsu is Back Mount (on top, both hooks set). Luckily, it isn't a place you will typically find yourself defending from unless facing an opponent who is much taller and stronger than you are. In most cases, you can simply roll onto your side to avoid being what the Brazilians refer to as Espalhando o Frango, or Spreading-The-Chicken. This is where your opponent lifts your feet off of the mat with his hooks and drives his hips into your lower back, oftentimes forcing you to concede the Rear Naked Choke. If you do happen to find yourself here, maneuver one of your legs to the mat, so that you can turn your shoulder and hip onto the mat. Once you're more or less on your side, it will be easier to start working back into your Half Guard from the Deep Half. Better yet, rather than settling for a figure-four to hold his leg, be more offensive by establishing a butterfly hook -from which, you can readily transition to your Shin-In Sweep, X-Guard, or 1Leg X-Guard.
